Dakimakura size guide: find the right fit
The right dakimakura size starts with the pillow inside it. If you already have an insert, confirm its dimensions before choosing a cover. If you are buying both, choose a size for which you can get a matching insert.
How do you measure a dakimakura cover?
Cover sizes here are written as length × width in centimetres. To measure your cover, remove the insert and lay the cover flat without stretching it. Measure its length and width; measuring around a filled pillow can give a misleading result.
150 × 50 cm or 160 × 50 cm?
The custom cover also offers 45 × 45, 70 × 40, 70 × 50, 100 × 35, 120 × 40, 170 × 60, 180 × 60, 210 × 70 and 240 × 80 cm options. Larger sizes need matching inserts and more space. Availability can differ between products, so use the options on the cover you are buying.
Prepare artwork for the shape, not just the pixel count
A tall, narrow cover needs a tall, narrow composition. Changing from 150 × 50 to 160 × 50 cm changes the proportions, even though the width stays the same. Check the crop again whenever you change size.
If your artwork is much wider than the cover, consider a custom blanket or custom tapestry. Their wider formats can preserve more of your composition without cropping away important details. Check the available sizes and preview to find the best fit. For a tapestry, choose artwork without nudity, as nudity cannot be printed on that product.
- Upload the largest original file you have, rather than a screenshot or compressed copy.
- Check which dimension is width and which is height in your image editor; cover sizes and image dimensions may be listed in different orders.
- Keep important details away from the edges. A screen preview is not a guarantee of an exact seam position.

A DPI or PPI setting alone does not tell you whether an image has enough detail. Pixel dimensions, the original image quality and the final print size all matter. Upscaling can help enlarge an image, but cannot guarantee recovery of missing detail.
Does a larger insert make a dakimakura firmer?
Firmness depends on the insert’s filling and construction as well as fit. Do not force a larger insert into a smaller cover to make it firmer; that can put pressure on the fabric, seams and zipper. If your insert sits between sizes, ask us about your exact combination.
